Tournesol Ferme is set on the edge of Fondouce, a peaceful hamlet in the Charente Maritime region in the South West of France. Surrounded by fields for as far as the eye can see, making it an ideal location for country walks and bike rides through the cognac vineyards. and fields of sunflowers.
If you feel the need to tear yourself away from the pool, a short 1.5 mile trip to the nearest village Beauvais sur Matha wouldn’t go a miss. There you’ll be able to pick up freshly baked bread from the boulangerie or sip on a beer at the bar. There is also a restaurant, the butchers, a pharmacy and a cashpoint.
If you’re looking to go a bit further afield, Matha is around six miles away and offers two supermarkets, restaurants and helpful tourist information office.

The Charente Maritime region is renowned for being the second sunniest so be sure to stock up on the sun cream. Whilst you’re here, you must try the local tipple Cognac, uniquely distilled in the region. The town of Cognac is only a 20 minute drive away and home to the traditional Cognac distilleries where you are able to go on daily tours. Cognac also boasts river cruises, cobbled streets, restaurants and bars.
For a truly french experience, spend the day in the idillic commune of St-Jean-d’Angély and visit the Abbey and the Roman Amphitheater for a history lesson in the region. The stunning views from the old fortress town of Angouleme create a perfect backdrop for those holiday snaps.
The farmhouse is just an hour’s drive away from the sandy beaches at Royan or Chatelaillon Plage. and if you’re feeling cosmopolitan, the historical port of La Rochelle is perfect for a day of shopping and seafood.
